BREAKING NEWS: Renee Zellweger not dead, career still missing
The majority of people entranced by the latest Variety blurb have been enamored with the whole Bridget Jones bullpuckey, as though news involving Renee Zellweger is anything other than depressing. As a non-British non-female, the level of interest I have in the series is divisible by Colin Firth (that charming scamp can get me to watch anything). Supposedly, the film will be based on Bridget trying to get impregnated before she's too old, or what I like to call "the soon-to-be most over-used, go-to topic for female-driven vehicles" (see Baby Mama, The Baster, and likely dozens more). I personally don't give a mushy crumpet, but that's the news people are glomming on to. Me? I found the more interesting news to be that the production company Working Title has brought in Cate Blanchett to star in Indian Summer. Why do I find that more interesting? See below:

And welcome back. Cate, who is and shall remain on "my list," will star as Lady Edwina Mountbatten in what I can only assume is a film about people with incredibly stupid names. Okay, actually it's about the last days of Britain's colonial rule of India and is based on a novel, but I'm hopeful the other characters have names like General Hossenfeffer T Honkenblower. I normally tune out period pieces, as they are usually more stuffy than a conference for Snuffleupaguses with allergic rhinitis, but if you put this lady in there:

then I am so very there. So very, very there. Plus, I find the whole colonialism thing interesting, given that we now realize how douchey the whole thing was. Anyway, you can celebrate the boring-ass Bridget Jones news or the exciting Cate Blanchett is doing something news. Your choice.
